Decorating Your Yard This Halloween The Easy Way

Halloween decorationFall is in full swing and Halloween is right around the corner. At Williams Fabrication, we love to encourage our customers to embrace their creative side. So just in case you’ve waited and haven’t decorated your lawn just yet, we’ve put together some cool ideas that are easy to put together at home. Check them out.

Make Use Of Your Potted Plants

One of the easiest things to decorate for Halloween are your potted plants. Whether it’s just a simple homemade spider web, plastic bugs crawling in the plant or a fake hand protruding from the soil of the plant. There are so many ways you can incorporate your plants into the decoration.

Decorate Your Fence

Your fence can be easily incorporated into a Halloween decorative scene but can also be easily forgotten. Decorating your fence is similar to decorating your pots in the sense that you have many decorative options and visions you can explore. Whether you’re wanting to make your fence look old and worn, spider infested or splattered with blood (fake blood, of course), your fence can be a great prop in decorating for Halloween.

Homemade Blow-up Pumpkins

Turn a yard full of leaves into a pumpkin family in little to no time. Simply buy some trash bags that have a pumpkin face on them (these are often available at the supermarket during the fall) and stuff them with leaves! The more bags of leaves you have – the bigger your pumpkin family will be. It’s an easy way to efficiently clean and add personality to your yard.

So whether you’re looking to make your yard look spooky, scary or friendly this Halloween, these ideas are definitely great places to start. Embrace your creativity this holiday season and let it show in your lawn. Happy decorating!

Fall Home Improvement

home improvement Fall is in full swing and the Williams Fabrication team has lined out a few outside home Fall maintenance projects you want to take care of while the weather is mild.

Be sure to clean your gutters and downspouts. Make sure all drainage areas are unblocked by leaves and debris. Gutter guards are also a great way to make this job a lot easier.

Inspect your roof, or hire a licensed professional to examine your roof for wear and tear, and if the shingles on your roof are worn, take advantage of the mild Fall weather by replacing them now. Also check the flashing around skylights, pipes and chimneys for leaks or gaps. You don’t want any heavy ice and or snow to find its way in!

Run the water from your outside hose until the pipes are empty, then turn off the valves to the exterior hose bibs to prevent exterior water pipes from bursting when the weather gets below freezing. If not, the water can freeze up when the temperatures drop to below freezing and damage the pipes.

Caulk and refill the holes or completely replace the wood around your windows, doors, railings and decks. By doing this process you’ll be closing any air gaps that may have formed over time. Make sure you’re home is ready for the Fall and Winter seasons before it’s too late.

Colors Homeowners Want To Stay Away From

Living roomWhen homeowners decide to remodel their home, many want to add flare and value to their home no matter what color they have in mind for their color scheme, but some colors just don’t go together and ultimately take away from your home’s potential gross value. At Williams Fabrication, we want our customers to get the most for their money and make the most of their home, so we’ve put together a quick list of a few color schemes you want to stay away from.

Orange and Green

These colors can easily be called the “carrot colors.” They aren’t very visually pleasing making it hard to look at.

Light Blue and Purple

If you’re anything like us, these colors remind you of berries. They can go well in a child’s room but not in the living room.

Brown and Yellow

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you see brown and yellow? Think about it. Yes, bananas. These colors together aren’t very visually pleasing.

Some of these colors may have been no surprise to you while some may have peaked your interested. Either way, now when you decide to remodel your home you will be sure to make the most of your home’s value.

Are You Cleaning Your Granite Right? Test Yourself

Granite CountertopsAt Williams Fabrication, it is no secret that granite is our speciality. Our granite will take your home from boring to extraordinary, but it is up to you to keep them shining. Are you cleaning your granite correctly? Test yourself by taking a peek at these quick cleaning tips we’ve put together to make sure your granite continues to shine.

Materials You’ll Need

Warm water
Mild or gentle dish soap
Dish cloth
Clean microfiber cloth
Isopropyl alcohol

  1. Wet a cloth – Be sure to wet the towel with warm water thoroughly with mild dish soap.
  2. Wipe the counters – Use the damp towel to wipe up any spills and remove crumbs from the counter.
  3. Dry the counters – Use a microfiber cloth to dry the counters and avoid streaks.
  4. Time to shine – Use a water and isopropyl alcohol solution to shine and disinfect the countertops.

When cleaning your granite countertop, make sure the countertop is sealed. To do this you would leave a few drops of water on the surface and if the water beads up, you have a sealed granite countertop, however, if the water soaks into the countertop, it is time to have the stone resealed. Be sure to not to use harsh or abrasive cleaners and sponges. Cleaners like Windex, and acidic cleaners like vinegar, lemon, lime, or anything with ammonia or bleach.
